The Gift of The Golden Shadows
Acrylic, chalk, charcoal & soot on canvas
62cm x 77cm
MINIMUM BID: R7 000

Short interpretation:
This piece is personal and archetypal. A man's "rock bottom" moment, my rock bottom moment and/or an initiation into another phase of life. If the man is alone, it could be the most dangerous passage of time, often ending in suicide. Thank goodness for me I have brothers who are willing to run into my house on fire and salvage my best and worst qualities for me to see.
Peace of Work
Acrylic, chalk, charcoal and soot on salvaged, burnt wood
45cm x 90cm
MINIMUM BID: R7 000
---
Short interpretation:
An exploration of how I, as a man, handle all my mundane responsibilities of paperwork, medical aid, rental bills and the seeming chaos of life. I am navigating the passed down ways of an older generation that was most often absent yet committed to their work and family, and my generation that is often lost and uncommitted. I've come to learn that a man must be present. Conscious. A grounded force. And that mundane life is also very enjoyable. And that this is a practice.

May My Last Breath Fill My Lungs With Trust
Acrylic, chalk, charcoal and soot on salvaged, burnt wood
45cm x 90cm
MINIMUM BID: R7 000
---
Short interpretation:
This work was invoked as a prayer before taking the leap or letting go into the deep dark parts of myself. There, I discovered a lonely boy in need of my attention before wreaking havoc with his toy tank. Here, a present man suspends all the parts of himself in a moments of time. He is connected and conscious. And willing to own his dark shades.
The Dismantling of Narcissus
Acrylic, pencil, charcoal, soot on salvaged, burnt wood
26cm x 40cm
Frame not included
MINIMUM BID: R7 000
---
Short interpretation:
I feel like this is an artwork for our time! Through the reflection of others - men in my circle, my loving partner and my spiritual way - I have been unraveling myself, my image, my story and ego. It's not comfortable. But 100% necessary. And even more so in these social platforms and individualistic times. Constantly, I am shown where I am living into a dreamy and idealistic version of myself and not dealing with the reality on the ground.
Find The Fire Within Me and Feed It With Responsibility
Acrylic, pencil, charcoal, chalk, soot on salvaged, burnt wood
21cm x 60cm
Frame not included
MINIMUM BID: R7 000
---
Short interpretation:
As a man, I'm constantly having to strip away my ego story (as seen in the previous artwork) and use Responsibility as the fuel for my fire - not the reason to run. Its no easy task! But so necessary. When I do, I am left with my soul and whole connection to all and all. Guided by my ancestors, human and non human. My past lives, a pile of bones at my feet. In service.
Generations
Acrylic, chalk, charcoal & soot on salvaged, burnt wood
56cm x 85cm
MINIMUM BID: R7 000
---
Short interpretation:
This piece speaks to me of the adventure of lineage and all things generational. What knowledge and trauma do I carry, often locked in my body, through the actions and experiences of those who came before me? What of my father and this father and his father? What of my mother and her mother? This is a celebration of this generational aspect of our human lives. As a new father - this artwork is everything for me right now. What am I now passing on to my daughter? I also place importance on the role an elder in society, not just an old person, but an elder – a wisdom keeper and story teller, seen here near the horizon, basking in the sun's glow.
